What is the Real Kansas Meats Traceability Program?

The RKM Traceability Program uses RFID tags to track every animal from birth to processing. It provides real-time data on feedlot performance, carcass quality, and production metrics, empowering producers to make data-driven decisions.

What cattle programs does Real Kansas Meats offer?

We offer six producer programs:

  • Traceability (Base Program)
  • Certified Angus Beef® (CAB)
  • All-Natural
  • Wagyu
  • Grass-Fed
  • Non-Hormone Treated Cattle (NHTC)

What are the requirements to participate?

Producers must use RKM RFID tags, allow quarterly audits, maintain accurate health and performance records, and meet individual program specifications.

Can I enroll only part of my herd?

Yes, participation is flexible. You can enroll selected cattle only.

Can I remove animals from a program?

Yes. Animals can be removed at any time with a $20 per animal removal fee.

What happens if an animal doesn’t meet USDA Select grade?

It will be classified as a Non-Participating Animal (NPA) and will be priced at current live market rate.

What premiums are offered for the programs?

Premiums are adjusted after carcass evaluation based on USDA grading. Animals grading below USDA Select are bought at live market rate.

What is required by weaning time if the sex of the calf is unknown at tagging?

It is required to have the sex of the calf recorded by weaning time.

What should be done if a calf is accidentally tagged and is not intended for retention?

Reach out to an RKM representative.

What do I do if I tagged a 2024 calf in 2025?

The producer will pay RKM per tag.

What do I do if I have extra tags?

Notify Allison (RKM Representative) and HerdX how many tags and what tag numbers before onsite visits, and they will be issued to the following calving season. We need to know those numbers before an audit.

If I have two bulls in one pasture, which bull do I use to record?

The decision of which bull to enter is preference of the producer.

What do I do if I have a dead calf?

If there is a dead calf, send proof with a picture of a tag in the calf’s ear to an RKM Representative. No charge for the death of a calf.

What do I do if the tag rips out of the calf’s ear while tagging?

Notify an RKM representative.

How does the traceability system work?

Our system uses long-range, tamper-proof RFID tags (powered by HerdX®) and provides producers access to data including feedlot performance, carcass weight, and quality metrics.

Is my herd data private?

Yes. We do not share producer data with third parties unless legally required.
